Tuner compatibility

Tanso TV turns your computer into a DVR for free over-the-air television. To receive broadcast channels you need a TV tuner — a small piece of hardware that connects your antenna to your computer. Here's exactly what's supported.

Supported tuners

Tanso TV currently supports these USB TV tuners:

• MyGica A681 / Geniatech A681 — supported
• MyGica A681B / Geniatech A681B — supported

MyGica and Geniatech are two brand names for the same hardware family, so an "A681" sold under either brand works the same way. If you already own one of these tuners, you're ready to go — if you're buying new, either the A681 or the A681B will work with Tanso TV.

MyGica A681 / Geniatech A681

The A681 is a USB TV tuner stick for receiving over-the-air (antenna) television on your computer. Plug it into a USB port, connect your OTA antenna to it, install Tanso TV, and the app will detect the tuner so you can start watching and recording live TV.

MyGica A681B / Geniatech A681B

The A681B is the follow-up model in the same USB tuner family, and it works with Tanso TV the same way: plug it in, connect your antenna, and let Tanso TV find it during setup. Like the A681, it's sold under both the MyGica and Geniatech brand names.

What you need

• An OTA antenna to receive free broadcast signals
• A compatible USB tuner (A681 or A681B) connecting the antenna to your computer
• Tanso TV installed on Windows, macOS, or Linux

Live TV viewing and recording with one compatible tuner per Tanso TV Device stays free for as long as Tanso TV is maintained and supported — hardware-accelerated recording is included where your system supports it.

What about HDHomeRun or other network tuners?

HDHomeRun and other network tuners are not currently supported. Tanso TV works with directly-connected USB tuners only. Support for network tuners such as HDHomeRun is on the roadmap and may arrive in a future release — but if you're choosing hardware for Tanso TV today, get a MyGica or Geniatech A681/A681B.

More tuners in the future

Support for additional tuner models may be added in future releases. This page will be updated as new hardware becomes compatible.
